Hey folks, I'm trying to activate the Parallels trial on a Linux (Ubuntu 6.10) workstation (primary OS) and am getting the following dialogue box when I click on "Activate" with my trial key: "The activation key cannot be used with the current version of the Parallels Workstation!" This doesn't make much sense given that the e-mail I received is titled: "Parallels Workstation 2.2 for Window/Linux Trial Activation Key" The version I have installed from the .deb is: Version 2.2 Build 2092 (10/10/2006). I've seen a couple of similar posts in the forums however I am unable to find the actual solution to the problem. Any help would be appreciated because I'd like to get my boss to buy me a copy so I can shed an old P3 933 I have under my desk just so (among other things) I can run Windows for a couple of corporate tools we use and I really don't need to have a pig of VM solution like VMware. What am I doing wrong? cheers, Gabriel
Could you try to request trial key again? We had problems on our website - probably your was not valid. I apologize for inconvinience.
I've been having the same problems (same version, downloaded the .deb and so forth) and can't get it to register for the trial. Re-tried using another key but to no avail.
activation problems I also have been having this same issue. I'm using the latest gentoo ebuild, for parallels 2.2.2092. I have tried using the trial key generated going through the built-in registration process, and a second key acquired from the website form. In both cases I receive the error message "The activation key cannot be used with the current version of the Parallels Workstation!". I'm at a loss as to how to proceed from here.
Still having the problem, I have downloaded 4 different keys and have tried to install on two different physical systems, all of them give the same error. The Windows key works fine, but the Linux key (at least on Ubuntu 6.10) doesn't. :/ I'd like to get my boss to buy a copy (perhaps several) but unless I can validate that it works as required it won't be happening... *nudge* -G
The problem seems to be deeper than a bad key by the way of the website. If you enter in an invalid key then it at least tells you that the key is wrong -- "The acitivation key seems to be invalid!". However a proper key states (as said above): "The activation key cannot be used with the current version of the Parallels Workstation!" Seems more of a development problem. Is there anyway we can get trial keys for older builds still?
just a "me too" having exactly the same problem. (Ubuntu 6.10) And another slight glitch in the Linux version: if you request a key from the linux client, it will send you a trial key for the Mac. But if you request a trial key for Linux, you get the same "The activation key cannot be used with the current version of the Parallels Workstation" error message. I hope this can be resolved quickly, I saw version 2.1 running on somebody's computer and was impressed...
It's been fixed in the newest build Ubuntu users will still need to edit some files as per http://forum.parallels.com/thread4707.html
hi, I had the activation key problem when using a trail version built 1970. I bought a license. When attempting to activate I got the message that the key cannot be used with the current version. I installed built 1980 (the link in the purchase e-mail pointed to this) but it still doesn't work. What to do? august
