Hi, I'd like to get a better feel for what sort of information is accessible about the host computer from the guest virtual machine. In this case, both the guest and host are windows 7 instances. Are the host's hardware ids or serial numbers available from inside the guest? Is there any way for the guest to tell if it's being run on one computer compared to another? For instance, say I make a VM that runs off an external drive. I plug it into my laptop and run the VM there. Then I shut it down, move the external drive to my desktop, and run the same VM from there. Would the guest machine be able to tell any difference in what hardware it is running? Could it tell the host's windows 7 serial number? Or any other way for it to know it was being executed on one machine compared to another? Thanks for any thoughts.
