Hello, Because shared folders are NOT available for Windows 98, I wonder if anybody already get a working solution to access OSX's filesystem from within Win98. Best regards, Romain
Hi Andrew, Thanks for your reply ! I'm an OSX newbie (since 2 weeks) and would be really thankful if you could give me more detailed information on how to setup this. Many thanks in advance, Romain
In the System Control Panel (the grey icon with the lightswitch in your dock) go to Sharing, then check "Windows Sharing". You'll need to enter a password to enable this, but afterwards your home folder will appear as a share on your windows 98 network neighborhood. You might have to find the share directly by going to the Start Menu in 98, clicking on RUN, then typing "\\192.168.0.111" without the quotes, substituting the IP address of your mac for the 192.168.0.111. To get the IP address of your mac you can click on the network icon in the Control Panel. HTH
Thanks for the information ! I'll try it tomorrow and post back if I have problems. Best regards, Romain
Hi, It works fine for Windows XP SP2 but I have some trouble getting it to work on Windows 98. Browsing the network neighborhood doen't display the workgroup and the resources. Trying to use the NET USE <drive>: \\<OSX host IP>\<share> connects to the resource, asks for the password and then fails with a Windows Error 5. I followed the follwing technical document to configure Windows Sharing (XP and Win98) : http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107083 Best regards, Romain
Hello, Did anybody already implement Windows Sharing between OSX 10.4.6 and a Windows98 VM ? Many thanks for your help ! Romain
Hi, THe issue could be how Win98 handles passwords. You have to force it to use plain text/clear passwords or Samba won't work. At least that's what I remember. I am getting old though. tech
