I have a new Mac Mini that I'm trying to setup for my wife. She wants to do Parallels and won't consider a Bootcamp operation. So, we have a P5 disk on the way arriving in a week. Since she wanted to get up and running immediately, we downloaded the trial version of P5 intending to plug in the "key" when the disk arrives. Next we installed Win 7. Up to this point, everything looked great. I assume that the trial version of P5 is the same as the paid version so I don't think that is the problem.

However, her '05 Quicken will not install (error 1607 unable to install InstallShield scripting runtime). Also, we can't download ANYTHING from the internet to the Desktop (an error pops up saying some desktop file does not exist).

I've tried to reinstall Win 7 today, but I still receive the same errors.

After Quicken refused to install on the Mini, I installed it with no problem on my '08 MB running with P5 and Win 7.

The way things stand at the present, the Mini is useless for a Windows operation. I'm trying to convince my wife to try Bootcamp, but she WANTS Parallels.

I'm going to give it on more try, although this time I want to delete P5 completely from the Mini HD before starting. I know how to delete Win 7, but how do I delete Parallels 5 also?

    Try removing Parallels Internet Security

Like your wife, I was adamant about running Quicken for Win in a VM on a Mac instead of using the Quicken for Mac which is horrible. I just bought a brand new iMac i7 and Parallels 5 with Win 7. Install went fine...but then all of the apps had trouble installing and running. after hours of work, I found one site that said that the Parallels Internet Security tool was blocking proper function of many applications in Win 7 on iMac i7s. They did not talk about Minis, but there is another thread in this forum about this same error on Minis.

So, try removing Parallels Internet Security, shut down the VM, reboot the Mini, restart the VM and re-install applications.

If it works, please post, because we are trying to get the Parallels guys to look at this problem.

the parallels install disc comes with an uninstaller. use that to completely remove parallels from your system. you need to wait a while for the uninstaller to do its work, it's not very good at showing progress (it will look as if it's doing nothing for a while). Have a coffee while it's doing its thing, uninstalling could take 10 mins or so.
