I have successfully installed a Windows xp svp2 virtual machine on my 17" Macbook Pro with 8GB Ram running Snow Leopard. When I tried to install a new virtual machine for vista 64 bit, I got the following message which also froze my screen and forced me to force quit Parallels. "Setup can not run on this version of the Operating System. To install windows please try rebooting from the install media."
Hm... may be CPU of your Macbook doesn't support 64 bit.. but I don't know exactly how to check this... please try to send a problem report from PD menu Help -> "Report a problem" and post here its number
Problem ID My problem ID is id 510495. My Macbook Pro is a 64 bit machine. It is running 64 bit programs in bootcamp. I don't understand the relationship between bootcamp and Parallels.
Your Mac really supports 64-bit, so it is all ok with it It seems that you are trying to perform upgrade of XP 32bit to the Vista 64 bit by starting setup of Vista directly in XP. This operation isn't supported by Windows. You should setup new virtual machine with Vista (instead of upgrading)
Perhaps I was not clear. After a successful install of 32 bit xp. I attempted to set up a second virtual machine using a new vista 64 bit install disk. That is when I got this message: "Setup can not run on this version of the Operating System. To install windows please try rebooting from the install media."
