Using 2.2 new release as of 10/11. Host is SUSE Linux 10.1, guests are 98, xp, OS/2, ECS.

Every boot of a guest puts up a message saying PWS encounted a problem with /dev/rtc. Any ideas?

It's a real time controller device. Probably Suse didn't modprobe it at startup?

Sorry, it's /dev/dsp that I'm having trouble with.

When I boot the VM, I get an error message that the sound device cannot be found and the system is going to use the loopback device.

Worked fine with the 2072 build. Upgrade to 2092, and no workie any more

I get sound 1/10 times I boot parallels but I'm using Ubuntu. Why didn't they implement an esd or oss sink, instead of arts -_-

Error writing to sound device! Loopback device will be used!

This is what I get when I have /dev/dsp selected and start the VM.

2.2 breaks sound under Ubuntu 6.06 primary OS

My sound (/dev/dsp) was working fine with the beta, but I just upgraded to 2.2 and now it gives me the same "Error writing to sound device" under either /dev/dsp or aRts daemon. Running a variety of noisy applications (e.g., iTunes, Radio365) was the main reason I have parallels, so I hope it's fixed soon!

Try the solution on the previous post, set mixer and output to /dev/dsp

    Sure enough

Sure enough, setting both mixer and output to /dev/dsp worked! Not only does my sound work again, but the vm is stable again; thanks!

I had to change the permissions on /dev/rtc as in SUSE Linux 10.1 only root had access.

I changed the permissions so that group and others could also read the device.
I made this change permanent by changing the rtc entry in the file /
    etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev-defalut.rules from mode 600 to mode 644.
