Routing problems with bridge101 aka host-only in Sequoia (was Monterey, Ventura)

YES! I got it working! Erin, I love you! I did things a bit differently so here is my setup: Step 1: I disabled "Connect Mac to this Network" in the Parallels Desktop preferences (NOT THE VM PREFS!). This is to avoid any conflicts Step 2: I made and ran a little script as root to initialize...

Routing problems with bridge101 aka host-only in Sequoia (was Monterey, Ventura)

OK, I think I got it working, at least partially. I'm now manually editing /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist so that I can route things via the network services panel so things don't get screwy when I switch to a different gateway via wifi or whatever. I'll post my setup...

Routing problems with bridge101 aka host-only in Sequoia (was Monterey, Ventura)

Oh my apologies I *think* I understand what you're doing here. We're using the hardware ethernet bridge which doesn't use vmnet or indeed any IP routing thus avoids any L3 routing.

Routing problems with bridge101 aka host-only in Sequoia (was Monterey, Ventura)

Hey Erin! I would have replied earlier but this account is linked to an email I don't really monitor and I had stopped using PD for a while. I was looking into this, again, and found out that Apple has supposedly hard-coded some kind of filter in their vmnet implementation (for unknown reasons)...

OMG..did you not all test this out first?

The only app I had problems with was ForScan and I got it to work by turning on "Safe Emulation". There are a bunch of emulation compatibility settings

owner of files created by VM is "system" (root)

Hello. Is there a way to prevent the VM from creating files and folders that are owned by root? I'm not logged in as root in the MacOS side when I start my Linux VM. Yes, I often run programs as root within the Linux OS but should that really matter? When these programs, such as Transmission...

Routing problems with bridge101 aka host-only in Sequoia (was Monterey, Ventura)

wireguard also requires at least one Network Service to be connected

Routing problems with bridge101 aka host-only in Sequoia (was Monterey, Ventura)

My wireguard setup which worked in Ventura no longer works in Sequoia, perhaps because my hack for getting a Network Service for bridge101 no longer works. I found this was necessary to change the service order in order for wireguard to work. I'm back to completely non-functional except via an...

    Network interface absent for Host-Only

So the old method of editing preferences.plist which kinda sorta worked in Ventura (at least for switching service order necessary to get wireguard to work seemingly) doesn't appear to work in Sequoia as it claims the Service is "Not connected". I'm unsure how to resolve this.

Where can I edit the dhcp table?

My dhcp IP to MAC association table for host-only networking is full of various entries I want to clear, but I don't know where this is located. Can anyone help me find it?

native hashcat performance >60% faster than VM using OpenCL

I don't know why, but hashcat benchmark is >60% faster native using OpenCL than in the Linux VM using OpenCL. Does anyone know why or can offer suggestions on how to close this gap?

Routing problems with bridge101 aka host-only in Sequoia (was Monterey, Ventura)

I've hit the limitations of this wireguard work-around. For example if the VM is connected to a gatewat that I need the Mac host to connect to, it seems impossible to do via WireGuard. I've tried to do this via ssh tunnels instead and it worked for about a minute then the mystery Parallels...

How do I prevent Parallels Desktop from coming to the foreground when plugging in a USB device?

It's really annoying and it has to stop! It happens even when I choose connect to Mac. How does that make any sense?

Routing problems with bridge101 aka host-only in Sequoia (was Monterey, Ventura)

OK I think I got it to work, finally. The trick for me was to use the "Edit" button in the "Manage WireGuard Tunnels" window. Hopefully that helps anyone else trying to work around the bug.

    Audio Crackling/Stuttering Issues?

I consistently get cracking noises in MacOS (host) after sleeping on a MacBook M2 Max. Anyone think it's due to Parallels? It clears up after about a minute. I have no idea what causes it
