I just picked up a new Macbook Pro along with Parallels 3.0 and Windows XP. I have only "ONE" reason for wanting to run windows and that's because I need to run Internet Explorer (windows version) to be able to access my online banking. Mac version of IE will not work. Yeah, where I live the banks online system's are not compatible with Mac's. As a matter of fact, even if you have windows you still have to run IE since their backwards set up will not even work with Firefox! I want to keep things as simple as possible and was wondering if anyone can help me out on what would be the best way to set things up for my situation. I'm also concerned about security since I've never owned a windows machine before and I'm worried that having windows living on my computer will open up some holes in the system so any tips on how to handle that would be appreciated. Thanks for any info.
Hello Proton, Use default settings - they are provided for the most common cases of usage. Please read Parallels Desktop for Mac User Guide to find all the information on the first steps with Parallels. You should install security software in the Guest OS. You have Kaspersky with Parallels package to try and make up your decision weather to use this one or another security software. Good luck! Best regards, Xenos
Hi Xenos, Thanks for your reply. Yes, I've installed everything and it all works great. I just had one other question. When you turn off the virtual machine and quit parallels your computer goes back to just being a Mac again....right? I mean are there any security issues that I should know about by just having windows installed on the mac? Is the only time your opening up yourself to the windows problems is when it's running? Best; Proton
Hello Proton, You are not expected to encounter any problems with Windows when it is not running. Just remember that you should finish your work properly: click Start and choose Shut Down from the menu. Best regards, Xenos
