    Hi,

one of my favorite tool in Parallels is the Snapshot manager.
But I cannot launch it any more, when I click on the button (or via the menu) parallels freeze, even after 1hours nothing happens and I must force to quit.

I updated it, reinstalled it... must I delete everything ?? did I loose all my precious snapshots ?

I have 2 differents images (Vista and XP) and it works for none of them.

    I have a 2 months old macbook

thanks in advance if you can help

    Hello Chrisg75,

What Parallels Desktop build are you using?
Your snapshots are not supposed to be lost. Please check if you can see the files located in your Virtual Machine Snapshot folder (Documents -> Parallels -> VM folder - Snapshots folder).

    Best regards,
    Xenos

    thanks for replying.
    I use PD 3.0 for Mac, build 5584 (16 janvier 2008)

And in the snapshots folders, I can see some pvc files, one .mem file, one .sav file and one png file.

It seems ok to me, I can even open the pvc files with textedit

    Hello Chrisg75,

Could you send me a screenshot - the output of this command run in Terminal (Applications-> Utilities):

    ls -la <vmfolder>

By default the path to the VM Folder is:
    ~/Documents/Parallels/<VM Folder>

    Best regards,
    Xenos

Chrisg75, thank you for the output. Here is what you should do:

Launch Windows and shut it down properly (your VM is suspended now).
    Delete Microsoft Windows XP.pvs.lock file.

    Best regards,
    Xenos

But I have often closed it and reopened it very often. It's still impossible to open de snapshot manager... the program freeze.

The program is frozen because I just tried to click on the "snapshots manager" button

Chrisg75, your Snapshots.xml file seems to be corrupted. Please attach it to your next post for we could check.

I would also like to see the output of the following command:

    ls -la /<vm folder>/winxp.hdd/

    Best regards,
    Xenos

    ok, here it is.

But you must know that parallels does the same on other virtual machines (Windows Vista). I don't think every xml is corrupted.

    Hello Chrisg75,

Please find the file com.parallels.Parallels.plist and delete it. Reboot your Mac.

If this will not help, reinstall Parallels.

If you still encounter the problem after the reinstall, please send me the information on the .hdd file (asked above: the output of ls -la /<vm folder>/winxp.hdd/ command).

Could you also attach a screenshot of the Snapshots catalogue from your VM folder?

Can you open Snapshot Manager on a new VM where no snapshots have been created?

    Best regards,
    Xenos

Just wanted to say that I had the exact problem Chrisg75 describes (running Parallels 3.0 Build 5580 on a MacBook Pro), and Xenos's advice helped me to solve it. I deleted the file com.parallels.Parallels.plist (located in ~username/Library/Preferences); rebooting my Mac wasn't necessary. After that, the snapshot manager would launch again.

However, although I could now create new snapshots and delete newly created ones, I could not delete existing snapshots: the snapshot manager would freeze, and I'd have to force Parallels to quit. After much trial and error, I had to delete all existing shapshot files manually by dragging them to the trash; for good measure, I also deleted the Snapshots.xml file.

But now the snapshot manager is working properly again. Snapshots is a great feature, so I'm glad to have it back again. Thanks for the help!

I have again and again done the same. I deleted every thing from my laptop via de uninstaller and deleting every "paralleles" files. I install a new Windows XP image and it's still the same... something on my computer doesn't like Parallels snapshot manager...
