Greetings! I'm trying to install Windows XP Home, but it crashes during the install, either locking up or blue-screening with a memory error. I have used 3 different installer CDs, tried the easy and custom setups, with various settings. I can install XP Pro, Ubuntu etc. fine. Parallels 5584 on a MacBook Pro, 2 GB RAM, 10.5.2. Thanks in advance! Greg
I am a brand new user myself, but somebody else just solved my problem so perhaps it will also solve yours. Try downloading the most recent version of Parallels from the Parallels website, then try to install Windows XP Home. Worked for me.
Thanks, but I've installed Parallels dozens of times for clients, and this is the latest version. As I said, XP Pro installs fine, just not home. I'd prefer to install XP Pro, but the client has Home... Greg
Looks like I solved it - when setting up the image, I selected Other Windows instead of XP. After the install completed successfully, I went into the prefs and changed it to XP, then was able to install the Parallels Tools!
I've been having a problem installing Win XP (Pro) -- installation kept stalling at 39 minutes left -- so I tried the workaround suggested in this thread (selecting Windows Other), and it WORKED!!! I just changed the OS back to XP and am installing Parallel Tools. But now, I seem to be hanging after restart on the SmartSelect update dialog. Ah well... But THANK YOU for the workaround -- at least XP is installed on the VM now.
