    Hi
New to Mac and new to Parallels....

I have installed parallels3.0 , upgraded to the newest build, and installed my printer within WinXP OS (as HP Color LaserJet 8500 PS). I can print OK to my HP 1320n laser printer...

The problem is that I cannot access the printer options, like 2 sided printing. From the MAC OS there is no issue and I get the fill 1320n printer options available to me, but from within XP OS in Parallels I get the options (I guess) for the Apple Color printer. Fr example there is a tab in printer properties for colour management - and my 1320n is only a B&W printer....

How can I pick up the 1320n printer options ?

    Thanks

    Hello,

how exactly did you set up printing in the VM?
    Did you use this article?

Hi - thanks for your reply.

Yes - that was how I set up the printer - as per the link you reference. And it *does* print OK from within the VM XP OS - I just cannot access the printer preferences and options that I can from the MAC OS - so I cannot do all the non-normal things (like more than one page to a sheet, or two sided printing - both of which I can do from the MAC OS)

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Hello,

what application do you use for printing? MS Word? How exactly do you initiate printing: by pressing a front button, key combination or from the menu? And from here do you try to access printer settings?

    Thanks for your help...
Within the VM OS - in Control Panel - Printers, I right click the printer to choose PRINTER PREFERENCES. Here I should be able to choose from tabs for Paper Quality / Effects / Finishing /Advanced - but I get a different set of tabs relating to the Laserjet 8500 printer, instead of my 1320n printer...

If I try to print from any application within the VM OS, I can only access the same Laserjet 8500 printer preferences rather then the 1320n ones I need to...

    Thanks

    I see now.
Unfortunatly, it is the way Parallel Port works - it actually sees not your phisical printer, but emulates that Laserjet 8500.

Just wanted to follow up on this. I too wish there was a way to set the mac printer's defaults when printing from Parallels. For example, I want to be able to print in "fast draft" mode but I cannot find any way to do that except make a PDF and parallels and then print from MacOS. Please fix this. The default settings are not always right.
