I am new to this post. I have a MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 3 GB of ram and build 5584 with Vista Business installed. I am having trouble recognizing my firewire hard drives connected to my MacBook in Vista. I recently had Vista installed via Bootcamp and I saw my hard drives but I then installed parallel for a more easier way to access Vista but I cannot find my hard drives. Can anyone help me?

Can you see the fw drives from OS X?

AFAIK (and I could be wrong) Parallels only supports USB devices connected to the VM, and if you set up the VM configuration (before starting the VM) you can map any drives visible to OS X as named drives in the VM...

    Hello,

unfortunately firewire devices are not supported. But if you want to connect external HDD via Firewire port you can make a shared folder in your external hard drive so that you can see your files stored on your drive in your guest OS. Please note that you should install Parallels Tools before this action. To make a shared folder, you should turn off your guest OS. After that open Shared Folder Options in Configuration Editor and specify the folder you want to share with guest OS. After making changes in Configuration Editor turn on your guest OS. You can see your shared folder’s icon on your desktop in the guest OS.

For more information about setting up a shared folder, please, see page 207 of the User Guide.

    Hello Alicia,

Why doesn't Parallels support external hard drives connected by firewire? Is there some workaround that would allow me to back up onto my firewire external drive from Quicken running under Win XP in Parallels? Thanks,

    peej

    Hello,

peej, if you set up your firewire device as a shared folder, you can use it as well.

Unfortunately, Parallels does not have firewire implementation. We are planning to investigate it. We hope firewire support will be available in future versions.

Can you connect your external drive via usb?
Normally when you have firewire there is also a usb connection.

Thanks for responding. Yes, my external drive has a usb connection, but I prefer to use firewire because it's faster -- and because I've got the extra firewire port on my iMac but all my usb ports (including a hub) are dedicated to other things. I suppose I could do this as a last resort, but it really seems silly.
