    Hi

When I try to start parallels I get the following message

Virtual machine cannot be started because of the following problem:
Parallels Desktop is unable to access the virtual hard disk image file /Virtual Machines/Microsoft Windows XP/windows.hdd. The file is used by other application.

I have tried deleting the .lck file and i then get an error message saying:

Virtual machine cannot be started because of the following problem:
Parallels Desktop is unable to access the virtual hard disk image file /Virtual Machines/Microsoft Windows XP/winxp.hdd. The file is corrupted

    Any help would be appreciated.

I have tried that already and there is no .lnk file associated with winxp.hdd

There is a .lnk file associated with windows.hdd but see above as to what happened when I removed that file.

    Hello,

    1. In the Finder, browse to the virtual machine folder (the default path is: Documents-Parallels-Virtual Machine).
    2. Find and delete the ".sav" and ".mem" files in the virtual machine folder.

And then again try to look at the article that I gave you above - it differs from the one you talk about I suppose, there is no mentions of .lck files. I suppose, you should repeat the steps from the article for both .hdd files.

    Hello,

if you don't have .sav or .mem files in you VM folder, it is ok, you should just perform the steps from the article, please.

    Hello,

which file, it says, is corrupted now? windows.hdd or winxp.hdd?

Have you taken a .hds file out of thу package and reset a path to the hard disk image? Was it normal or were there any error messages?

Hi - let's close this thread.

I lost patience and have rebuilt Windows XP.

    Thanks for your help.
