Hello, I recently bought Parallels Desktop 3.0. Its 3D support was one reason to do so. But now I tried to install Alias (now Autodesk) Maya 7 on my VM. Everything works fine - except that I don't see anything in the 3D view. It seems, as if there are some problems with the OpenGL support. I thought 3D worked? Anyway it seems as if I am not the only one with this problem. Some people in this forum solved the issue by downgrading to parallels 2.5. But I don't want to downgrade. Isn't there another solution? Will there be a patch for Parallels Desktop which fixes this? (I attached a pic of the problem. The 3D view is just plain black) Best regards Daniel Schroth
Hello, please, try to update to build 5584 which is available here and in the Configuration Editor go to the Video tab and check "Enable DirectX shaders". Will it help?
I downloaded and installed the update as you said. But now, I can't even start the virtual machine, because parallels tells me I need an activation key. Mine doesn't seem to work anymore. My activation key is for the german version of parallels. I think it doesn't work with the english one. Where is the 5584 update for the german version?
Hello, i have the same problem with Maya 7. I am running build 5584 and active opengl-views are black. The only way to see something in one view, is to move the mousepointer over another view that is also using opengl .. Hope this will be fixed soon. I already reported this problem to parallels. BTW Maya is not the only programm i am having this trouble with .. a few opengl apps work fine though .. thanks, David
Hello, Daniel Schroth, German build 5584 is available here. David Kraus, thank you for the information! Do other OpenGL application have the same troubles or different ones?
Hi Alicia, first of all thanks for your reply and yes the trouble is kind of the same in at least one other opengl application that i am using .. in eyeon Fusion 5.2 i have the same black-area problem when using the context-menu inside a 3d window, there the menu rebuilds itself everytime i change mouseposition and while refresh the complete menu is black .. think maya 7 and Fusion are using a more complex overlay, some sort of special usage of opengl childprocess that is causing this trouble .. hope you can fix it in some of the next builds, if you need any additional information i will try my best to help. thanks, David Kraus
Alicia, thanks for the upgrade, but it doesn't help. I still have the same problems with Maya as before (the symptoms are as David Kraus described).
I received my new computer and parallels yesterday, and am running into the same problems that everyone is mentioning above. I am also getting a strange distortion whenever I move the mouse when playing City of heroes. It creates a band across the screen of the log in screen for a few moments (perhaps 1 second). It greatly interferes with the game, but this is vastly less important than the Maya problems. -Robert
Hello all, thank you all for your feedbacks. Unfortunately, Maya 7 is not supported by Parallels. We are working on this and trying to add this feature in future versions. Robert Ellis, what is your Parallels build?
Hello, please, check your Parallels build through the top menu Parallels Desktop->About Parallels Desktop. If you have the latest 5584 build, then, in the Configuration Editor of the VM, go to the Video tab and enable DirectX shaders. Will the performance of the game be better?
Nope. I have build 5160. I guess I have to upgrade. That will wait until my current project is done, just in case is will cause some problem. Thank you for the information. -Robert
I will try this again tonight using Maya 8. Last night I realized that if you turn off Hardware Rendering on you video driver then Maya will render correct (but you can't use Hardware Rendering). But it gets rid of the flicker. As far as the Black goes, it looks like Maya uses the Draw Buffer to display your 3D viewports when they are idle. I think that in Parallels the idle draw buffer is erase or initialized back to 0, just drawing idle Maya windows black. That's why you can see stuff in Maya when they are updating, but not when they are idle... of course this is a guess. -H
what about Maya 8.5? i'm using a trial version of parallels 3.0 for mac, build 5608 (should be the newest one i believe). i have similar problem that has been mentioned above. although i set my main memory 1024mb and video memory 64mb and enabled directX shaders, my 3d view of maya doesn't show models smoothly... i still can see but it's flickering and slow. is there any way to fix this please???
Is software listed in http://www.parallels.com/en/products/desktop/features/3d/ Also you can try to disable DirectX Shaders and set following 1. Minimize hardware acceleration level in display properties. Right click on Desktop -> Personalize -> Display Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Trobleshoot tab. Put hardware acceleration level to zero. 2. Set Color in Display Settings to 24 bit making hardware acceleration set to maximum.
