Hi Folks, I'd like to know from some of you experienced folks running Parallels 3.0 on Mac OSX Leopard 10.5.1, if the following Windows apps will run well. 1. Office 2006, using Excel Powerpoint 2. Adobe Acrobat 7.0 3. Paint Shop Pro Is there a list anywhere that shows what apps have been tried and run sucessfully using Windows XP Pro as a guest VM? Many thanks, Jim
I have used all those apps, with the exception of Paint Shop pro. They all worked fine, I have used Photoshop CS2 with parallels, so far no problems.
Photo Shop CS3 is pretty processor intensive. Do you have XP set to use multiple cores on your VM? How much space did you set up for your HDD? Thanks, Jim
I do not have CS3, only CS2. CS2 is also processor intensive but runs fine in the VM. When I run CS2, I allocate 2gig ram to the VM. Parallels does not support multiple CPU's in a VM. VMWare's Fusion product supports multiple CPU's in a VM. However I used the VMWare product for 30 days, using a free 30 days evaluation license. My observations were that the multi CPU support in VMWare did not provide any speedup for CS2. In fact a few of my batch jobs ran much better(faster) under Parallels. My Parallels Disk is sized at 32Gig. Most of the data in my shop is stored on a Server. So a local disk of a huge size is not neccessary for me.
Yes, I use coherence. No issues if you do not use/rely on Spaces support. Windows apps do not switch around in multiple spaces. Coherence with multiple displays is good also, as long as the secondary display is logically located to the right of primary display. Try putting a secondary Display above the primary, and sometimes you have some issues with XP windows dealing with the MAC task pane if you try and drag between the two displays, or try and have a XP window span the two displays. Putting the display below the primary, and then you have to mess with the Dock goofiness. Left Primary, Right Secondary display, then you will be having a pleasant experience.
