I need help to get the PowerMic II recognizable as a microphone in Parallels. Hardware/software: Macbook Air running 10.10.5 Parallels for Mac installed with Windows 7 PowerMic II for Dragon dictation connected via USB Online virtual desktop running through Citrix to allow access to healthcare applications like PowerChart. Dragon Medical is installed on the virtual desktop as well. Problem: With the PowerMic II attached, when Dragon Medical is launched I receive an error message that the audio device is not recognized and no audio device is available. Device manager shows the PowerMic II attached AND recognizes it is that model. It is not just a USB device. However, inside of Dragon Medical/Power Chart it appears as a USB mouse. It's true the PowerMic II has a pointer feature but I'm interested in the microphone part. The PowerMic II does not have any external drivers. And it does not work on the Mac natively. So how do I get the PowerMic to be visible/usable in Powerchat/Dragon Medical? Thank you
These issue appears to be related to how the PowerMic II audio component is being passed through Parallels/Citrix, as Dragon Medical is detecting the device as a USB mouse instead of an audio input device. Please try the following troubleshooting steps: Verify USB device connection in Parallels Disconnect and reconnect the PowerMic II In Parallels, ensure the device is connected directly to Windows 7 (not macOS) Go to Devices > USB & Bluetooth and confirm PowerMic II is assigned to the Windows virtual machine Check Windows sound settings inside Parallels Open Control Panel > Sound > Recording Verify whether PowerMic II appears as a microphone or recording device If it does not appear under Recording devices, Dragon Medical will not detect it Confirm Citrix USB redirection settings Since Dragon Medical is running on a virtual desktop through Citrix, the microphone must be redirected to the remote session In Citrix preferences/settings, verify that audio input or USB redirection is enabled Test microphone detection locally in Windows Before launching Dragon Medical, check whether Windows 7 itself recognizes PowerMic II as an audio device If Windows only identifies pointer functionality, Dragon may continue to show "no audio device available" Restart Dragon Medical after reconnecting the device Close Dragon completely Reconnect PowerMic II and confirm it appears in Windows Recording Devices Relaunch Dragon Medical Because the PowerMic II is a combined input device (microphone + pointer), Parallels or Citrix may only be forwarding the pointer functionality while failing to pass the audio interface. The key step is confirming that Windows 7 recognizes the microphone under Sound > Recording before launching Dragon Medical.
