    Hi,

I'm using Parallels Desktop 3.0 Build 5582 on Mac OS X 10.5.1 "Leopard" on a MacBook Pro 2.2GHZ / 4GB RAM running Windows XP Professional (ServicePack 2) Guest OS.

I believe my problem with networking is related to suspend/resume, but I'm not certain that it does it every time.

Networking will work quite fine for some period of time, but after taking my laptop back out of my carrying bag, I will find that I am unable to connect to anything. This problem persists, even if I reboot the VM, or exit and reload Parallels. Only a full reboot of the Mac OS will reliably take care of this problem.

The network setting in Parallels is "Shared Networking". Sometimes by switching so that parallels binds directly to the NIC instead of sharing networking, things will work. But other times, not even that will fix it and a full reboot of Mac OS X is needed, after which I can start up Parallels and get things working again.

The network adapter inside the VM shows "Limited or No Connectivity" in Windows. It responds to changes in the network settings in Parallels (it shows "cable disconnected" when switching between "Shared Networking" and directly binding to the AirPort wireless adapter. But it fails to get an IP address, and uses AutoConfiguration for its IP.

What could be wrong? I'm a recent convert from VMWare Fusion, which was installed on my machine first and is still installed, but Parallels seems to work, just not reliably. Where do I go to troubleshoot?

    Hello,

sorry for inconvenience. We are aware of this problem and trying to solve it.
Meanwhile, please try to use the following command in Terminal:
    sudo killall –hup pvsnatd

    Best regards,
    Stacey

    Thanks

Thanks for the terminal command to fix the problem. How will I know when a patch comes out to resolve this issue? Is there some sort of notification that I can be put on?

    Command to start back up?

Is there a command I can enter in Terminal to start back networking back up? This would eliminate the need to exit Parallels and reopen the program.

In Linux, the command might look something like "/etc/init.d/pvsnatd start"... is there any equivalent command that I can do on the Mac?

I think I've figured it out... the command
    sudo /Library/StartupItems/Parallels/pvsnatd
seems to start back up the pvsnatd daemon, and then from there I can renew the IP address in the guest OS. Is this the best way to do this?

Parallels Desktop will notify you if you have the appropriate option selected in 'Help' -> 'Check for updates'.
The command sudo /Library/StartupItems/Parallels/pvsnatd is quite the same as sudo killall –hup pvsnatd.

    Best regards,
    Stacey
