It would be great to see Linux bring back a polished "shared apps" style feature with a Coherence-like experience. One of the biggest productivity boosts in virtualized or compatibility environments is when apps feel native instead of trapped inside a separate desktop window. Seamless window integration, unified taskbar entries, shared clipboard, and file association bridging would make a huge difference for users who rely on cross-platform workflows.
Linux already has strong foundations for this with Wayland/X11 compositing, containerization, and tools like Flatpak/Snap isolation, so technically it seems achievable. What's missing is a standardized, user-friendly layer that integrates these pieces into a smooth, plug-and-play experience. If implemented well, it could significantly improve usability for newcomers and professionals alike, especially those transitioning from other operating systems.
Curious if anyone knows of active projects or experimental builds trying to revive this concept?
