After updating to Parallels Desktop version 26.0.0, Parallels Tools created a file named "Mac disk" on the D drive of my Windows 11 virtual machine. I can't delete the file because Parallels Tools is blocking access. If I uninstall Parallels Tools, the folder disappears. What's going on? Why is the folder being created? I haven't configured any shared folders in Parallels for Windows. How can I permanently remove the folder? It's bothering me.
Hello, Thank you for reaching out! We have created a ticket to assist you with this issue and will contact you at i**@co***.com with further updates. Thanks
edit - turning on Security > "Isolate Windows from Mac" removed the "mac disk", but presumably that should happen when sharing options are deselected alone.
Unfortunately, that is not a solution for me. Because then the macOS shared folder is no longer visible in Windows, and I need this shared folder to exchange data.
Mine is under "C:\Mac\" folder, this file in two of my windows VMs is ~150GB, another VM is zero (which has much smaller total VM size compared to the two). All three VM have the similar MacOS shared folders and the unchecked "Isolate Windows from Mac". What is this huge file really for?
Even if you didn't manually enable any shared folders, Parallels Tools is automatically mounting shared storage in that "Mac disk" entry. It's harmless, just annoying. For now, disable Shared Folders and Shared Profile in VM settings or wait for a Parallels patch -- deleting it manually won't stick while Tools is active.
