?

Should Parallels allow users to convert their subscriptions to perpetual licences?

    Hi!

I am running Parallels Desktop 19.2.1 on my MacBook Pro (2016), which is no longer supported by either Parallels nor Apple. I have just received a message from Parallels saying that my subscription is going to increase, but this doesn't sit well with me considering that I am not able to run any newer version of Parallels Desktop for Mac, and that my support options are running thin due to running a version of Parallels Desktop that no longer supports Mac OS X Lion as a guest operating system on my Mac running macOS Monterey.

Is there a way to convert my subscription into a perpetual licence so that I can run Parallels Desktop 19 as it currently stands on my Mac? Until I can justify moving on to a new version of macOS, on a new Mac, with full support for ARM from Parallels, Apple and Microsoft (and maybe Ubuntu)... I'm going to have to stay with the setup I have which I know works.

Any comments on my request? They are most welcome! Thanks!

    Hello Tonza,

Unfortunately, converting a subscription into a permanent license is not currently possible.

We would however advise purchasing a new license if need be using the following link:

    Hello Adeboye,

followed your advice and have arranged to purchase a new licence! It should serve my purposes on the machine that I have. The licence is installed and Parallels Desktop 19 is back up and running! I'll see how it goes, but I'm sure it should be fine... until it's time to upgrade the Mac itself!!! ;-)

Many thanks for your advice, and kind regards.

For readers of this thread... it should be noted that the perpetual licence is that of Parallels Desktop 19 Standard Edition, not Pro Edition! If you still need Pro features, this is not the way to get around the subscription.

    Cheers!

When software companies went from "you own the license in perpetuity" to "subscription - we own the license and you're going to pay us every time we fix a problem and call it a new version", users have become nothing more than ATM's for the software companies. If you read the fine print in any software license, you discover that you are really only "leasing" the software and that ownership, ultimately belongs to the producer. What a great way to distribute a product. I'm trying to figure a way that every time I load some software companies software, I can charge them for the privilege of me using their software. A few companies (Apple, MS, most Liinux distros) still don't nickle and dime you every time you use their software, but somehow I'm sure they're looking for a way to go to the "subscription" method.
