Let me tell you something Parallels people- You have a lot balls to sell this Acronis and not give basic instructions of how to run this on a VM Lets forget about that you dont support it. I can understand that. But how about basic instructions on how to do it.?? I have spent 3 hours with trial and error and even though I finally was able to restore an image- it restored w/ errors. If you sell the software then you have tested in. So why don't you share your experience instead of making us search google for answers that don't exist or write Acronis and go back and forth emails until maybe I get answer. Here is my experience for others. 1. I made a bootable BART cd w/ Acronis TI b/c a with a TI cd - (4 tries) -- keyboard, mouse wouldn't work. Not usb either. 2. I hooked up my usb drive with image before I booted Mac w/ Bart. 3. I restored image using the FILE option- which is different than doing this on a Windows only Pc even with a partition. 4. Besides the errors I got while restoring which included "system volume info" file, which I chose ignore error, at the end of the operation it had a minute left and said I had to reboot to finish operation. Well that can't happen using a bootable CD . Bottom line is I restored image, and the problems I had with VM are fixed. (I think) But again-- there is no reason that you should sell this product and not give basic instructions, because in no way restoring an image to a VM is automatic.
Acronis answer Here is "help" from Acronis- My comments are BOLD Hello, Thank you for your interest in Acronis Home and Home Office products http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/ You can install the program with you virtual machine and try to install your image using it you can't restore image while you are using that VM or a PC for that matter or try to boot it with Acronis Bootable Media ISO image. I did that and mouse or keyword dont work Please note that Acronis True Image 11 Home does not officially support working with Virtual Machines. OK- so why is Parallels selling this ?? Or maybe no one told him? Thank you. Note that you can quickly find the answers to your questions in Acronis Support Knowledge Base at http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/support/kb/. NOTHING I could find there -- Best regards, Ivan Sarychev Acronis, Inc. 23 3rd Avenue Burlington, MA 01803 USA http://www.acronis.com Acronis Customer Service Department http://www.acronis.com/my/support/
Acronis IS NOT Supported in Parallels Here is another "help" response from Acronis. I gave them the details at the end of this email. 2 emails from Acronis Support say they dont support True Image in VM. So why is Parallels selling this ? Hello, Thank you for using Acronis True Image 11 Home http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/ I'm afraid that Acronis True Image has not been tested on your configuration yet and we don't guarantee that the program can work on it. We are always at your service should you have any further questions. Thank you. They refunded money Which was quite normal. The real question remains though why SWSoft is packaging Acronis True Image with Parallels if 1. Is not supported by anyone on a VM 2. Doesnt work as it should- or even close. I did get it to work mind you- but it is FAR from being a product that should be bundled as the assumption will be-- install it, click icons, and smile.
And yet they comtinue to sell it!!! http://www.parallels.com/en/products/desktop/premium/ Can you believe it?
And yet they continue to sell it!!! http://www.parallels.com/en/products/desktop/premium/ Can you believe it?
I guess it's sorta like when Dell bundles AV software in with a computer, they don't support the AV software and point you at the Vendor. I haven't used Acronis that much with Parallels but it seemed to work the little I did use it. If there are indeed serious issues, I would raise the questions you guys do. Does anyone have this happily working?
it works to create an image, but restoring is like I said above- And its more than a support issue as Acronis doesnt even support it, it doesnt work properly. I guess the decision people who made this bundle dont read these forums
Yes , they would .. Publish your findings and Acronis replies to software testing online community and publish .... they will have to react . and if the software is not supported, check the link where Parallels sells and claim full support , and go to court with proof ... that's it
I don't understand the problem. I used Acronis True Image to clone my system drive to a bigger partition and it worked great. It's pretty easy - all I did was read the instructions.
Please show us the instructions for use with Parallels. Acronis support doesnt have any. Tell the forum the exact procedure you did. What version, each step-- that will help.
Read this post: http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=17765&highlight=Acronis These are the instructions I followed. By the way, this forum has an excellent search function ;-) Thanks to MarkHolbrook for the excellent advice.
