Hi - Due to performance issues, I recently erased my MacBook, reinstalled MacOS and then installed Parallels with Windows 11. When I installed W11 using the Parallels installer, it set my username to my Microsoft login email address (the part before the @), so firstnamelastname, which I do not like at all. I did the install late at night and, consequently, I do not remember whether there was a prompt asking me to set/change/confirm the Windows 11 username during the process, or whether it did this automatically. (Ouch)

I'm asking so that I can decide on next steps. If the Windows profile username was changeable during the install process, and I just jumped through this step by mistake, then I will just erase and reinstall everything again. If it was automatically set by the installer, then I will work on changing per instructions that I found on MS website (but prefer not to do this).

Thanks for any assistance and hopefully for saving me some time and another self-induced headache!

Arrgh. You cannot edit a message on this system. You are not asked for a user name during the install. The username is your login name and if you happen to be logged into any MS program, will use that.

After watching several YouTube videos that show the Parallels & Windows 11 installation process, I can't see any step that would allow the user to specify the W11 profile username. Still would be appreciated if someone could confirm this. I have found a couple methods to change the username in Windows, here are two in case someone else wants to change theirs:

Method one: create new account and delete old account in 8 steps
Method two: manually change the username via registry (more complex); here's a post on MS forum

Do a Google search for "How to change you user name in Windows 11". (You can always create a new profile with another name and then delete the original one). MS has a very detailed description of how to do this.
