I am trying to install Windows XP on Desktop 3.0 build 5582. I'm running on a MacBook Pro; I've tried on both Tiger and Leopard with the same results. I've tried all three of the installation methods, but the behavior I see is always the same. Windows text mode setup starts fine. It gets through copying a bunch of files, then at the message "Setup is starting Windows", I get a blue screen and the VM stops. Unfortunately Parallels immediately then flips back to the VM control screen; I can't read the full text of the blue screen because it goes by so quickly - I *think* it's saying something about session initialization. If anyone knows how to see the screen after the VM stops I can post the exact bugcheck. I found a Parallels KB article that suggested turning off acceleration during XP install, but that didn't help. I can get Windows to run by installing in Boot Camp and then running the Boot Camp partition in a VM, but I really don't want to dedicate a hard drive partition to Windows. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks!
Ola, My first guess would be installing with added SATA drivers (F6 during wininstall) as it could be a problem having to do with your HDD not being fully recognized in windows. There is an intel driver floppy available on the internet. Called something like: f6flpy32 http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProductID=2101&DwnldID=13808&lang=eng Good luck ! That didn't make a difference. However, I did find a way around the problem. Installing from an XP ISO rather than the real DVD seems to work (at least, I made it farther...) Hope this doesn't mean I've got a flaky DVD drive...
