I have looked and havent found answer as to why I cant access my network from XP sp2

I can do it from Mac, but all I see from XP is the network name-- I can not open it to map it.

i have latest version of P.

    Hello dkaleky,

    Please try the following:

    1. On the dock click Apple -> System Preferences -> Network.
    2. Show Built-in Ethernet.
    3. In the Network dialog box choose "Off" for Configure IPv4 and click Apply.
    4. After that choose "Using DHCP" again and click Apply once more.
    5. Show Parallels NAT and repeat the steps 3 and 4.

    Best regards,
    Xenos

Dkaleky, please check, in Mac OS -> System Preferences -> Network -> Show Network Status, if Parallels NAT is green. If it is red, try the steps described in my previous post for the tab Show: AirPort.

These instructions can be useful to set Wi-Fi connection for your VM:

    1. Start Parallels Workstation and open your VM.
    2. Open "Network adapter" settings in Virtual Machine Configuration Editor and choose "Bridged" network adapter emulation, then close Configuration Editor and save your VM settings.
    3. From the Windows Primary OS Start menu, choose Control Panel - Network connections.
    4. Hold down Ctrl key, mark your Wireless connection and Parallels NAT connection.
    5. Right click these marked connections and choose Bridge Connection.
    6. Start your VM and check network connection in your Guest OS .

    Best regards,
    Xenos

I chose Bridged ethernet, default adapter.

    the only thing here is

    LAN2 -
    status> connected firewalled
    Device name> parallels net. adapt.

    nothing here to bridge

(btw I am able to access my network, by mapping it via a bootcamp startup- these held in place when in went into VM. But I still need to know why the above is not working. Eventhough I can access network-- I can not make a NEW connection if needed via VM)

Dkaleky, we would also like to know why your network connection does not work. Could you please provide us with some additional information:

    1. The output of ifconfig command from Macs Terminal;
    2. The output of ipconfig /all command from Command window on Windows side (press windows(apple) key + R and type cmd).

Waiting for the screenshots. Thank you in advance.

    Best regards,
    Xenos

Could you please send me the output of ipconfig /all command from Command window on Windows side (press windows(apple) key + R and type cmd), when Shared Networking is set?

Also try turning off Firewall in Windows and on your Mac side.

    Best regards,
    Xenos

    Hello Dkaleky,

We could not see where the problem is looking through your IP configuration. Everything seems to be OK. Could you please answer these questions:

    1. What is your Mac model?
    2. Are there any routers and other computers in the network?
    3. Have you copied VM to several computers on the network? If you had, did you change Mac addresses of the VM network adapter to avoid conflicts?
    4. Have you manually changed any network settings on the OS X or Windows side when you tried to set up VM networking?
    5. Are you using VPN connection from either Mac OS X or guest OS side?
    6. Do you have Parallels Tools installed / have you reinstalled Tools if updated Parallels Desktop?
    7. What exactly the problem is? You can not open internet sites in VM? Can not load any files from internet? Can not create a new network connection?

Thank you in advance for your help in clarifying the situation.

    Best regards,
    Xenos

    1. What is your Mac model?

    macbookpro

    2. Are there any routers and other computers in the network?

modem is also a router, and there 3 computers in network which cant be accessed unless I choose bridged.

    3. Have you copied VM to several computers on the network?

    no

    4. Have you manually changed any network settings on the OS X or Windows side when you tried to set up VM networking?

    no

    5. Are you using VPN connection from either Mac OS X or guest OS side?

    no

    6. Do you have Parallels Tools installed /

    yes

have you reinstalled Tools if updated Parallels Desktop?

    didnt know i needed to

    7. What exactly the problem is?

can not browse the network to create a new network connection

The workgroup shows, but I can not explore it

You can not open internet sites in VM?

    sure I can--

Can not load any files from internet?

    can do

Can not create a new network connection?

    bingo!!! no can do.

UNLESS I use bridged ethernet option

Can you access a computer from the network manually by typing the IP in the Run field?

So there could be a DNS issue.

Or the group browsing does not work correctly for Shared Networking as this connection mode puts Mac with computers connected to it and VM in different subnetworks.

Why don't you use Bridged Ethernet if it works for you?

    Best regards,
    Xenos

I would explore the DNS issue first...
Can you map a drive by the IP address?
