I am seeing the following error message when attempting to install Parallels Tools 5582 on a Windows XP VM:

    ---------------------------
    Parallels Tools Setup
    ---------------------------
Parallels Tools cannot be installed. You must have administrator permissions to install Parallels Tools. Log in to the computer as an administrator and try again.
    ---------------------------
    OK
    ---------------------------

I am of course logged in as an administrator.
Is anyone else getting this error?
Any tips on how to solve it?

    Thanks

    Hello,

please, in VM make sure that hidden files and folders on your computer are shown (Control Panel->Folder Options->View), then, go to your Program Files and find "InstallShield Installation Information" folder. Delete it with shift+del, then reboot your VM and try to install Parallels Tools.

    Best regards,
    Stacey

Thanks Stacey but your suggestion didn't fix my problem.

I found a workaround by running "PrlTools.exe" directly from the "Parallels tools Setup disk" drive.

I think the problem may be with the "PTStart.exe" program that is autorun from that drive.

Thanks for this thread. Stacey's instructions didn't work for me either, but I was able to simply double-click on my D: drive (Parallels Tools setup disk) to initiate the installation process. I didn't need to find PrlTools.exe.
