I had Parallels 5160 installed on my iMac which was running great on OS X 10.4 with XP Pro (fully updated) and applications installed.

I upgraded to Leopard and either XP or Parallels hung and I could not get things to work so I did a hard reboot...

I tried to fix the issue and now have two virtual machines listed when I start Parallels. the original hangs, the new one I created yesterday with a new install of XP Pro works fine (but lacks my applications and data). when I select the original virtual machine s it says Windows XP is Suspended. The only action that is offered in the action menu is start, I cannot locate a resume option anywhere (I suspect there is no such think. ie. your terminology may not be the best)

When I select Start I get the dialog box: "Error occurred while trying to interact with Parallels driver! Parallels Desktop is either not installed or/and configured or has integrity problems, which prevent it from operating properly. Please reinstall the Parallels Desktop."

How do I reinstall? I tried to reinstall from the applications folder and reinstalled XP and now when I start Parallels a dialog box comes up with two selections. XP and XP 1. If I select XP I get the message above, If I select XP 1 XP starts but none of my applications or documents are available. I don't want to go through the painful task of installing and upgrading all my Windows applications.

How do I repair, reinstall Parallels so the original XP installation is restored?

How do I delete the new XP 1 installation?

    Hello,

please, try to do the following: in the Finder, browse to the virtual machine folder (the default path is: Documents-Parallels-Virtual Machine). Find and delete the ".sav" and ".mem" files in the virtual machine folder.

    Best regards,
    Alicia.

I do not have a Parallels folder in my Documents folder. Perhaps I am not understanding where I should find the virtual machine folder, but I looked using spotlight and find nothing there either. I assume these must be someone since XP 1 works, so I think it is just me not being able to follow your suggestion.

    Hello,

when you type "Parallels" in the spotlight, there should appear a list of files and folders - aren't there any folder named Parallels?

    Best regards,
    Alicia.

I cannot find it in Spotlight or by browsing finder. However when I start Parallels I get a dialog box to Select a virtual machine and two items appear in the selection box. Windows XP(the Virtual Machine orginally installed) and Windows XP 1(the Virtual Machine I just installed). I can select Windows XP and click Choose and finder like window opens. Listed are winxp.mem and winxp.sav, but they are greyed out. (And thus cannot select them). Windows Applications is also listed and within that folder are the application I installed. However all the applications are greyed out.

What does the grey out indicate?
How can I select them in order to delete?

Then, try to look for ".hdd" (w/o quotes) via the Spotlight and browse the Folder that contains it.

    Best regards,
    Alicia.

the files winxp.mem and winxp.sav are still greyed out. What does that indicate. Spotlight did find the .hdd virtual disk, but when I select that in spotlight parallels hangs and I had to do a forced quit.

if I can't ungrey the files (or if the files simply don't exist) then what to do??
Can I reinstall Parallels? do I have to uninstall and then reinstall?
Is this program so unstable that I should wait until they come up with a suitable version?

I upgraded to RC 5580 (did not uninstall first). I still have the XP and XP1 VMs. XP is where my apps and data reside but it still gives me a BSOD error and sends me to the safe mode boot screen which gives me a BSOD. XP1 runs fine, but has no applcations.

In Parallels when I select Open the two VMs are listed and when I select XP -> Choose... the finder like dialog comes up and the two files .sav and .mem are still shown in grey font in the list. the list has 6 items (Windows Apps, Windows Disks, winxp.hdd, winxp.mem, winxp.pvs and winxp.sav) Selecting winxp.pvs sends me to the Safe Mode boot screen and booting from there gives me the BSOD.

If I click on Windows Apps the folder shows my applications, however they are all in grey as well.

    Is there a repair?

Please send snapshot of BSOD, full problem description and minidump (located in C:\Windows\Minidumps) to [email protected]

    We'll investigate your problem.

    Thank you.

Explorer shows the two VMs, and two Virtual Disks, but both Virtual Disks have the same name: winxp The first opens and I can see the contents, the second one displays a message saying the hard disk is used by a suspended virtual machine. Then asks if I want to open to view, modify or cancel. There is one Volume(1) NTFS listed. In the mini dump folder there is no recent dump, but the most recent has be emailed.

I have tried to Reset the VM (which I think cleared the greyed files becasue they no longer appear) but still get the BSOD when Start, I have emailed the BSOD. I have TimeMachine and I may have something there is useful... but not sure how TimeMachine works with Parallels.
