I've got a realvnc server running in parallels, it's got an IP address I can't access through the LAN... any ideas? some kind of port forwarding from Parallels to the Mac? tia

What kind of networking are you using? Bridged or Shared?

If you are using Shared, RTFM, then try Bridged.

If you need Shared Networking, you should have told us, your weapons of choice will be ipfw and natd.

bridged on my router? I've got Parallels set to shared (with host-only being the only other option).

Is there any way to just forward, say, port 5901 to the windows XP running in parallels and communicate through that?

    TIA

I was referring to Bridged or Shared on Parallels, which you answered, thank you.

Yes, you can forward with ipfw (man ipfw).

In the new Beta they have a GUI for forwarding, and there are some available on the net, use Google. The new stable after the Beta will have the GUI built-in for port forwarding which will make the live's of those adverse to command line MUCH easier.

any ideas of what I should have entered in the forwarding GUI, specifically, what the IP address should be set to?

    thanks

Did you set your Parallels to Bridged Networking? VNC will not work unless you set Parallels to Bridged Networking. Once set, your VM will get an IP address from your router if set to DCHP or you can assign it a static IP address then you should be able to VNC right to it from any Mac or PC on your network. If you need to get to it from outside your firewall/router you'll need to setup port forwarding on your router.
