Ah, right! Thanks! I was zipping through several threads. The post ought to turn up in searches. Moderators can move it if they like.
OK, I seem to be having a similar problem, but I have 2 gig of RAM, 1 Gig in each bank. My activity monitor shows 76414 page outs when Parallels is not on and 6-700 MB free space. But when I start Parallels and IE7 (To use Quickbooks Online) page outs goes to 82,315 and free memory drops to 25-25 MB. Do I have to quit almost every Mac side program to keep Parallels running well? The problems I'm having with QBOE have become so frustrating I am trying to convert to a desktop version, and cannot download the data file. I don't have any problems on the Mac side, speed is great, but I'm also thinking of going back to a two computer solution, very unhappily. :-(
Sorry, a little more. This Activity Monitor idea seems very odd. I rebooted the entire computer and without starting any Mac programs (just finder and Dashboard) then started Parallels and IE7 and QBOE. Total page outs: Zero. Add Firefox on Mac, total page outs: 166. The Free Memory is still down to 24MB, but I think the comment about the Automatic memory allocation covered this. Parallels uses whatever is available.
