    Hello All,

I am getting a weird error when trying to launch windows vista ultimate from parallels 3.0

This is what i have done so far:

    1. Rebuild mac to a single parition and fully patched.
    2. Installed Boot Camp 1.4 and made a 32GB partition for Windows Vista Ultimate.
    3. Installed Windows Vista Ultimate (and fully updated) and installed the drivers disc which boot camp made.

I can launch Vista without any issues if i choose it when the machine starts (with the option key).

When in OSX i launch parallels, it then asks me for my password which i enter correctly, the screen starts to boot with what i assume is the bios text for parallels.

i see standard windows window flash by with the white text and a big white bar (selection bar)

The screen then stops with the following message and does not go any further:

    Booting 'Windows Vista'

    acpi
    Vista Loader 2.1.2

    Done!
    fallback 1
    find --set-root /bootmgr

    Error 17: File not found
    Booting 'Windows NT/2000/XP'

    Fallback 2
    find --set-root /ntldr

    Error 17: File not found
    Booting 'Enter Command Line'

Boot failed! Press any key to enter command line.

The strange thing is when Parellels is not started I can see my macosx drive and bellow i have a drive called untitled (which i assume is the windows disk)

when parallels launches the untitles drive disapears. Not sure if this means anything or not.

I am a little stuck here as this is my first time with Parallels as I normally use Fusion.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Mithandra

    Hello mithandra and mergedown,

    Please send me some information:

    1. Open Applications->Utilities->Terminal. In Terminal window type "diskutil list" command and run it. I'd like to get a screenshot of the result.
    2. I also need the output with the .pvs file which you may find in Mac HD -> Documents -> Parallels.

    Thank you in advance.

    Best regards,
    Xenos

    Solution and References

I've had the same problem as you... I noticed someone from parallels actually posted looking for more info from you... Well...

Here is about that problem generically under Boot Camp:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=2029550

If you can get your Vista partition to boot, the following program seems to fix the bootloader and make everything work...

There are also a couple other threads about this...
