Running older versions of Linux on M1

Has anyone tried is installing an older version of Linux? I know that some variants have supported ARM for a bit, but they were generally targeted at the rPi. I have an old tool I need to use that won't run on the newest versions because the latest Python and other dependencies seem to be too new and it's been a fight to try to roll stuff back. After selling my i5 MacBook I'm stuck on my old Win7 machine running Ubuntu 14.x on Virtual Bix and it's a real hassle. I'd love to get it running on my M1 machine as the performance with Win10 and Ubuntu 20.x under Parallels is stellar.

Only ARM versions of operating systems are supported.

• Ubuntu 20.10, 20.04
• Fedora Workstation 33-1.2
• Debian GNU/Linux 10.7

OpenSUSE LEAP 15.2 is running well in a Parallels VM here on my M1 system.
