At my office, we use a lot of network install points and network drives for storing and accessing data.

We are also fairly new to the parallels VM's and are working to find a solution for several of our employees to be able to use them.

All of our computers are joined to our domain as a matter of policy and we have 3 users who want to have 2 versions of Windows XP SP2 and 2 versions of Windows Vista running on each of their computers for testing purposes (all licenses have been purchased and activated properly).

I've noticed that Parallels assigns a MAC address to each of the virtual machines which is fine, but what we want is for all the VM's to defer to the iMac's IP address for networking purposes while at the same time retaining their own virtually generated MAC addresses.

Not sure how to do this and we can get the VM's to show a proper IP address in our IP range, but they do not all show the SAME IP address. Then we start running into problems with authentication to our Novell network drive system.

If anyone has any suggestions or experience with Novell OR the Symantec Ghost Suite (separate issue, separate thread) please let me know thanks.

    NateG.

So, you want two MAC addresses bound to a single IP?
Two adapters on the same IP && same subnet && same time != solid networking.

Are you wanting to use Shared Networking by any chance? But, my guess is that this would cause even MORE problems with your Symantec Ghost Suite that we discussed in the other thread.

I'm still at a loss as to 'what' this proper IP address is... If I recall in the last thread I was wondering if the IP is something determined by MAC Address according to policies you have set, or if it is just the IP assigned to the computer. 'What is this address you speak of?' Is it just a temporary IP that all new computers use?

Maybe I am being dense, and if so, sorry to waste your time with my dense replies.

Sorry about all the confusion. I'm experiencing some personal frustration myself as I'm really just a go-between for this whole project.

Ok, I think we have a working solution. In the Novell Client properties window, under the Service Location Tab, add the Server's IP you are trying to connect to. In our case we have 3. 1 is used for authenticating users. The other 2 are used for assigning the user's permissions to the various network drives. This is besides the point.

If we use shared networking, we are getting exactly what we need. Each VM has it's own MAC address and IP address, however, the iMac is only using 1 IP address on our range. The only thing we were missing was to manually point each VM to the Novell authentication server under the Novell client properties. We've never really needed to do this before which is why it was so confusing/frustrating to begin with. Now that we've got a work around however, we shouldn't have any more problems,

Thanks a lot for all the help.
