I'm new to Parallels and am having problems installing the Window OS. Below is as far as I can get. I have a valid copy of XP and a serial number.

Does anyone have any pointers to the problem?

    Hello,

could you please specify when does this error message occur? Have you installed Windows on your VM?

The message appears when I am installing the DMG file when following the steps you suggested.

So I've not been able to install the windows yet.

Can I ask is there a difference between a version of Window XP that ships with a laptop and a retail version?

Thanks for your help on this.

    keno,
may be there is the problem with the installation disk?

As far as I know usually when Windows CD ships with a laptop, it is not an installation disk, but the repair disk that can be used only on the laptop.

    Best regards,
    Stacey

I basically using the CD's that came with my Sister's PC laptop, maybe that is the problem.

If I need to buy a XP installation disk do I just look for retail version of XP?

Yes, it is possible reason for such a problem.

It is better to buy a Full Retail version of Windows.

    Best regards,
    Stacey
