Is it possible to use Parallels 2.5 with upcoming OS X 10.5 Leopard or am I forced to upgrade?

To answer my own question, user guide says that: "Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) is supported experimentally."

What does this mean in practice - does 2.5 work with next weeks 10.5.0 release?

It means it is not officially supported, and thus should not be used in a production environment.

At this point in time it is only meant for testing purposes, or playing, also known as experimenting.

It may work perfectly, and it may be very spotty, you really can't read into things too much.

Experimental Leopard support is not enough

When I bought Parallels (4 copies actually), the system requirements stated 10.4.xx or later. I find it really upsetting if I am forced to pay more money for the same software to keep it working when the operating system receives updates. Especially when there are should be no no issues in keeping it from working (3.0 claims to already have the internals in shape for supporting 10.5 - they are probably fairly easily backported to 2.5).

    jole,

Both 2.5 and 3.0 versions will officially support Leopard once it is released.

    Andrew,

Does that mean I can just go ahead and install Leopard on the 26th, or should I wait a few days for you guys to issue a Parallels update?

    chabig,
We will wait for the final Leopard release which will be available on Oct 26 both for us and our customers. We expect that 2.5 will work on it in general but will probably have a number of issues. Then we will fix issues and release 2.5 update in few weeks depend of the issues found.

"if it ain't broken don't fix it"
    applies to OS updates

give Leopard six monhs to a year if it does not address specific problems on your system
or come with a new machine
