Upgrading from pro 13 subscription based to 14 single license

I had a subscription based parallels pro version 13, the subscription has ended, i was taken to an upgrade site and i decided to get me a home version upgrade on that page since i don't like subscriptions. It was standard offered to me. Now I install the home version 14 over the old one. When I start parallels it keeps saying that my subscription has ended and i can only upgrade to the pro version. it says:
To continue using Parallels Desktop for Mac Pro Edition, renew the subscription or purchase a new license.

Why can't i activate the new home version and just use it.?
I not willing to pay twice for activation and i don't want something that i must renew next year.
