I recently purchased Parallels Desktop 13 under representations from Parallels, one being that the software does not require internet access to function once it has been authorized. In my initial use of the software, in at least one scenario, i have discovered that Parallels Desktop DOES require periodic internet access in order to continue functioning.

What is the process for money refund? I purchased direct from Parallels through Amazon storefront. Parallels 8 works great, i am going to stay with it and not upgrade as planned.

Below is what has been documented, in case others have similar needs and are considering Parallels Desktop.

When i make a backup .dmg image of the drive partition with Parallels Desktop 13 installed on it, and then do test restore to another partition, Parallels stops functioning. Eventhough Parallels was authorized and working prior to making the .dmg image, upon restore Parallels shows as not being authorized and require internet access to be authorized again. Parallels Desktop 8 did not have this issue. It appears that Parallels Desktop 13 is using the partition identifier to determine computer uniqueness whereas Parallels 8 used a more stable identifier such as the mainboard identifier.

This is unacceptable behavior as i often repartition my disk drive for testing purposes. The required periodic internet access makes my computer not secure.

This is update. I found partition corruption caused by El Capitan installer. This installer will create a logical container that interfers with management of all partitions on the drive. I did El Capitan setup a different way and the backup .dmg file can be restored to a new drive partition, and Parallels Desktop 13 will continue to function without requiring re-authorization. High Sierra does not have this logical container issue. I have not tried Sierra.

I will continue to use Parallels 13. Hopefully things will go smoothly as it has been for Parallels 8.
