Hi there I just installed P14 trial before buying soon. But I'm surprised to see that the max GPU Ram is still 2GB. I thought P14 would do 4GB, no? I read it somewhere and that GPU would be very much improved. So what happened?
In Parallels Desktop 14 for Mac we have implemented Automatic Video Memory feature for Windows 7+ OSes using aperture segment. If your Mac is equipped with GPU that has 2+ vRAM, simply assign more RAM for the virtual machine and Windows will use up to half of assigned RAM for video purposes (e.g. 8GB RAM - up to 4GB of vRAM), which will boost graphics performance in virtual environment. So theoretically, if your Mac has 16GB of vRAM, assign 32GBs of RAM to get the top out of your video card.
Hi Dmitry, thanks for the info. I have a 2018 15'' MacBook Pro with 16GB of Ram and a 4GB Radeon Pro 555X. And Parallels 14 with Windows 8.1 What settings would you suggest to get the best possible GPU performance for gaming & CAD? Assign the full 16GB of Ram to P14/ Windows?
Hi Matt, this configuration should be optimal: 2 virtual CPU cores If you're not using any macOS apps intensively (in scope of RAM), try assigning 12GB of RAM. 12GB will allow your virtual Windows to use 4GB for video and the rest 8GB for usual RAM (in case there are any games that need so much RAM). If you're not playing "heavy" games, 8GB of RAM should be also good for Windows. Your GPU will still be using 4GB of RAM for its purposes. You should definitely leave at least 2GB for macOS, 4GB should be good as well, but if you notice macOS performance degradation with 12GB of RAM assigned to VM, lower the amount to 10-8GB. Make sure that Resource Usage slider under VM config > Options > Optimization is set to 'No limit' Please let me know your feedback about working with this setup, thank you!
Hi Dmitry, I have a similar question and I was hoping you could help me out. I just purchased Parallels 14 and I am having some trouble with my graphics settings. I plan on using Parallels for gaming as well and I am hoping to optimize Parallels for gaming. I have a 2017 iMac with Retina 4K and Radeon Pro 560. Memory is 8gb 2400 mhz ddr4. I really appreacite your time and help and I look forward to hearing from you.
