Sharing folder with Guest OS (Windows) makes it disappear from Finder!

    Hello

I am using Parallels 3.0 build 5160 and running Windows XP SP2 for the guest OS. A folder that I share through "Shared Folders" disappears in the Finder in Mac OS X. I am running 10.4.10. If I use the terminal I can still see the folder when I do "ls" but it will not show up in the finder. Alias' pointing to the folder still work, but the folder itself seems to be invisible in the Finder.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a fix? What should I try to fix it?

    Thanks

    Nick

I think the visible attribute is being set to NO either by Parallels itself or the Guest OS. Is there any way to stop this from happening?

I have exactly the same problem.

Would like to fix it, don't know how. (with the help of Tinker Tools I can see that everything is still there, nothing has been destroyed (what a relief!), and so I created aliases with Tinker Tools which are now visible and working even when I have deactivated the "show all hiddenfiles"-modus. But that's no REAL solution.
    greetings,
    liedlein.

Same problem here. Same build (5160) and same Guest OS. I just fixed the issue by downloading a trial version of a program called File Buddy. The invisible flag was checked. It seems this issue started after I downloaded the latest build.

YES! I wish I had found this post earlier. After many hours, posts to other forum, reformatting the drives once before.....this did the trick. Will I have to update this flag each time I unmount and mount the drives? Or is this it?

    Thanks so much,

    David

mdrdsr, I dare say that you will need to have to manually set the flag each time. I have had to.

I can't seem to pick why this is happening. For me, it happens more often than not, but sometimes, it doesn't happen.

Have you guys shared other folders and had it happen to the other folders as well. My results have been mixed.

What *action(s)* will cause me to have to redo this? Unmounting? Disconnecting? Starting parallels?

    Thanks again.

    Thanks xeondavis!

I was not looking forward to figuring out the UNIX command to Undo Parallels 'new features' - File Buddy did the trick. Using 'Shared Folders' is just fine with me. These new features that create invisible files and the .link alias' add to much compexity for my taste.
