I am using Windows 10 Russian, Parallels 13, Mac OS High Sierra Russian, Desktop is on iCloud to save space on SSD. When I try to install a Windows tax reporting app (it's only Windows version), it says 'Can't get access to \\Mac\Home\Desktop error' on Windows app installation.

I have read all articles in the Knowledge Base and tried to do everything that is recommended to do except moving Desktop in Mac OS because that article in KB seems to be outdated, in my case the 'ls -la' command returns different output, and besides my Mac desktop is in iCloud. I isolated Windows and Mac and shared them again. Allowed Windows to connect to iCloud.

Recommendations to re-install Parallel Tools do not seem to appy to Parallel 13.

Windows starts normally, it sees Mac desktop and all the folders. I moved the 'msi' file to different locations, to C:\, to the Desktop etc, but it made no difference. I am running Windows with administrator account.

Is there a way to install the app on Parallels 13, or I should rather buy a Windows laptop?

Hi @AlexanderS17 , Thank you . Please let us know if the software has worked anytime before in a Windows virtual machine and did you check if the software is compatible to work in virtualized environment?

The vendor of this software updates it once a year. I couldn't check this particular version of 2018 exactly because it won't install in Parallels. Previous years versions worked in Parallels on Mac without problems every year during several recent years.

I tried to do this prior to posting the thread. As mentioned above, Parallel Tools seem to be not applicable for Parallels 13, instead there's Parallel Toolbox. The dropdown menu looks differently from the KB article you referred to. Please see the screenshot attached. I installed Parallels Toolobox, but I did before, it doesn't fix the issue.

Parallels Toolbox is different and Parallels Tools is different. In the screen shot we can see the Parallels Tools option is grayed out. Kindly restart the virtual machine and then go to devices in the top menu bar, Devices--> CD/DVD ( Make sure it is in default cd/dvd ). then try reinstalling Parallels Tools and check with it.

Okay, This cd/dvd drive is a virtual DVD drive not the real physical drive. Now the Parallels Tools image is mapped to the cd/dvd drive. Kindly open File explorer and then double click on DVD (Parallels Tools) and finish the installation.

I didn't change anything here, CD/ DVD settings were always like this. I opened File Explorer in Windows, then DVD Parallel tools. Please see content of the folder on the attached image. I tried to figure out what should I do to follow your instruction to finish the installation. I tried to run the app named PTAgent.exe. It started installation of Parallel Tools, but the installation aborted with error after some 10% of the process with the attached error message. After Windows restart and repeating of the process the error was the same.

Update. I ran Autorun.exe, and it helped resolve everything. Paralallel Tools installed, and then the 3-rd party installed, too. When Windows restarted after installing Parallels Tools, it asked me for additional permission - see attached, which I allowed.

Though I still think it would be better if Parallels handled this automatically, thank you very much for your help and support!
