I've updated to build 5160 and I think I now have a permission problem. I noticed this when my external Firewire 800 drive icon disappeared from the desktop after installing the Parallels update. I can still see it in the disk utility and can browse it through Volumes via the Mac HD path but I can't do anything else with it, including getting the mounted icon for it back on my desktop or on the side panel in Finder (view removable disk option is already ticked in Finder options).

I have tried unmounting and ejecting the drive via disk utility and mounting back on. I have tried switching everything off, nothing returns the icon for it. I have done a repair on the disk and no errors were found. The repair file permissions button is not available as there is not OS installed on the drive.

Anyone seen this before and have any suggestions on fixing permissions? My guess is that the update with its "share Windows and Mac apps" has someone stuffed up the permissions.

    Hello,

you can try to reboot Mac OS. And check if there is the drive icon on the Windows desktop inside your VM.

    Best Regards,
    Alicia.

Hi, no there is no icon on the Windows desktop for the EXTERNAL drive. However there is a mapped drive (x:) to MAC EXTERNAL (.PSF) that I can see in Windows Explorer and when I click on it I can see the contents of my EXTERNAL drive okay.

    Any other thoughts?
