I have searched and searched but can't find the answer for what seems to me would be a common problem. Search brought up two threads but both were unanswered.

I am trying to move my Virtual Machine from my old laptop to the new. I did a Migration but the Virtual Machine won't open. Just errors. So I reinstalled Parallels from scratch and copied over the entire folder containing the 'Microsoft Windows XP' folder from the old computer (home/documents/Parallels) to the same place on the new one. It opens fine but I get this error while trying to start it:

"Parallels Desktop failed to initialize Virtual Machine memory subsystem. If this is the first time you see this message, try to reboot your computer and start your virtual machine again. Otherwise please contact Parallels support. Error code (2)"

Of course I rebooted it and it did the same thing.

Is there a standard set of instructions for this procedure? Thanks. -Derryl

    Hi,

    Please try do the following:

    1. Open Terminal application (/Application/Utilities)
    2. Type in Terminal: sudo chmod -R 755 ~/Documents/Parallels
    3. Press Enter
    4. Type your password if prompted
    5. Press Enter

Alexander, thank you for the reply. I did just as you said but no change. I still get the error I mentioned above. Any other suggestions? Thanks. -Derryl

    a guess

try cloning to an external HD preferably FW 800
    run it from there

    shut down

move HD to the new machine

new VM and open the clone file in Parallels

    clone to the new machine
