Bootcamp Vista VM crashes on opening

Am having a problem that when I try and start my Vista (Bootcamp) VM, it commences to start the Vista boot sequence but after a couple of seconds it crashes and closes Parallels. (No error messages given) Have used the 'down arrow' to get the menu but neither safe mode, nor last known good configuration work either. (Safe mode goes through the driver lines very slowly.)

Have searched the forums and find other cases but no mention that the boot sequence appears to start before crashing

    1. Am running 5160, though problem first appeared under earlier version and did originally work fine.
    2. Bootcamp direct will boot
    3. XP VM will open correctly
    4. A log I've seen requested shows...
[14.09.2007]-[23:53:12.724]: extract_system_root_path() file "boot.ini" open error (DaAPIWrap error code 0x40011).
[14.09.2007]-[23:53:12.724]: extract_system_root_path() using default system root directory
    [14.09.2007]-[23:53:14.288]: Valuelist empty
    [14.09.2007]-[23:53:14.288]: Create vista table failed

    a. Is there a fix?
    b. Would going to the boot menu and use the 'repair' option work (if it is actually possible to access it) or could this mess up the working Bootcamp system?
    c. Is it possible to remove the Bootcamp VM and then start a new one?
    d. On the Configuration Editor, under Hard Disk1, Advanced, there is a 'Cleanup Bootcamp' section. What does this actually do as I can't find it mentioned in the Help File?

    Any help would be appreciated

Is it possible to start a new VM?

The answer is yes, if you don't mind re-installing everything. When in Parallels go into the File Menu and select 'New VM', it should walk you through set-up.

Perhaps someone more familiar with Vista might be able to shed some insight. I don't touch it with a ten-foot pole.

    Thanks for replying..

I did go through the new vm situation to see if I could create a new Bootcamp vm, but it goes no further than the original! This leads me to think that Parallels has installed things in the actual Bootcamp system that need to be removed, before recreating Bootcamp access via Parallels.

Oh, sorry, misunderstood what you meant. I thought you meant to start over from scratch, in terms of a non-BootCamp vm. Yes, Parallels installs some things in the BootCamp system that are probably the culprits of your problem.

Sorry, not familiar with Vista, and to prevent screwing you over I won't venture with any actual 'repair' suggestions (in fact, I have never run Vista repair so I don't know if it is any different from XP repair). But yeah, if you know what you are doing with the Vista repair you could try and 'revive' it. I know that you could do it with a screwed over XP BootCamp partition.
