Hello, I am currently on Mac Yosemite 10.10.5
    Running Parallels 10.3.0-29227
    with Windows 7

I am considering upgrading my mac operating system to Sierra
Just wondering if anyone has suggestions on order of upgrade. Should I do the mac system first then parallels?

Thank you for your prompt response. two questions:
Will my Windows 7 still be compatible?
Once the virtual machine is backed up are there instructions for reinstalling?
Sorry, my first time doing this alone.

Amazing just logged on and almost same question as me so i have some answers. Also like RachelK I am running windows 7.

So I should upgrade windows 7 to 10 first?
    Then Mountain Lion to Sierra
Then install Paralllels 12, currently I am on 7 !

Yes, Windows 7 will still be compatible. To put things more clearly: Please locate the virtual machine file on the Mac (it is a file with the extension '.pvm'), make a copy of this file and move the copy to an external hard drive with a Mac-compatible file system [e.g., exFAT, Mac OS Extended (Journaled) etc.,]. Then, upgrade the Mac, and then Parallels Desktop. Later, move the virtual machine file copy back to the Mac, place it in this location: Macintosh HD/Users/(username)/Parallels, double-click on it and run it (select 'Moved' when asked to choose between 'Moved' and 'Copied').
Hi @Karl1, please perform the upgrade in the exact order as described above, and finally perform the Windows upgrade.
