I've been having problems with prior versions crashing too. See this thread for those details: http://forums.parallels.com/thread16036.html

    Under 5160, here's what I get:

    Date/Time: 2007-09-12 07:29:04.162 -0700

    Parallels fault log contains:
    Code:

    	Access to fault address: 0xc

    And Console.log contains:
    Code:

Important debug hint: this crash ONLY occurs in one of my mac user accounts. If i create a fresh account, Parallels runs properly. Therefore I suspect a conflict with some other software that was installed in this account's home folder.

More info. In can ALMOST get it working by some trickery.
    1. Launch parallels by clicking it on the dock.
    2. It crashes immediately.
    3. Click "Reopen" from the mac os x crash dialog.
    4. Parallels opens, but insists on configuring a new VM.
    5. Configure a dummy VM.
    6. Then, double-click an existing PVS file, which will open in a 2nd copy of parallels.

However, this is where I get stuck:

    7. the 2nd copy of Parallels starts the VM immediately, and I can't edit the VM's settings.
    8. If I stop the VM, the 2nd copy of Parallels quits immediately, preventing me from editing the VM settings.

Any ideas? Seems like some sort of weird preferences file crash, and I'm hoping that if I can get a VM running, and edit the VM preferences, I might be able to get it to save a non-corruped prefs file.

Is there a way in step 7 to prevent parallels from auto-starting the VM so I can edit it?

To open the .pvs without booting right away, you hold down the command key.

Christian -- I finally solved my problem, but the solution wasn't pretty:
    1. Make a full backup of my hard drive.
    2. Create another Admin account.
    3. Switch to that admin account, and delete my user account.
    4. Re-create my user account.
    5. Switch back to my user account, reinstall parallels, verify that it launches.
    6. Manually copy back everything from my home folder on the backup drive.

Strangely enough, it seems that I was able to copy back everything -- preference files, application support, etc.

So whatever was causing this bug seems to be a feature of some hidden setting in one's account. Very bizarre.

It's the Command (Apple) key, actually.

Christian (Oliver) -- did you solve your problem? I'm still mystified by what may have been causing it. In my case, parallels was working fine on my system, then mysteriously stopped. I suspect it was another piece of software I upgraded or installed. Likely culprits for me include: Actual ODBC drivers, some iPhone hacking software, and the most recent OS X updates. By chance did your problems start when you installed any of those?

I have been getting this same error over the last few weeks. I just upgraded to leopard (clean install but used the migration assistant to bring my user account from a backup), and reinstalled the latest parallels build (5540). But still, same error:

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Parallels Desktop 3.0 Beta for Mac OS X version 3.0 Build 5540.0 from 2007-10-29
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Received SIGBUS: Bus error
    Access to fault address: 0xffff0000
    unknown signal sender: 2

It seems that a few of us are getting this error, and the only suggested fix is to delete and recreate the user account. There must be some reason that this works? There must be something in the account that is not on the list of things to delete when uninstalling, that is causing this to occur. Has anyone heard back from Parallels support with a cause or fix?

This is incredibly frustrating, I failed to open a support case before I upgraded to leopard, and now that I am using the beta version on leopard, I need to wait to open a case until it is officially supported -- even though this is the same error I have been getting for several weeks.
