What determines the size of the hdd file within my Guest OS folder on my Mac? I've got it set up for up to 32GB. The c: drive shows that it's used up 10.8 GB, but my hdd file is 17.8 GB at the moment.
Hello, What version of Parallels Desktop do you use? If you use a 3.0 version then have you done any Snapshots? Best Regards, Alicia.
Not due to Snapshot I'm running 3.0, but I haven't done a Snapshot. The contents only show the one hds file (in addition to the Disk Descriptor).
While Windows is running, select "Run Parallels Compressor..." from the "Actions" menu to compact your hdd file (but keep in mind that compacting could take some time). The reason that it is currently taking up more space than necessary is because the hdd file expands to hold whatever data is added to it, and doesn't automatically compact when files are deleted, so you need to manually choose to compact it.
Ghost snapshots and compressing The virtual hard disk is now 115 GB, although inside Vista, only ~50 GB are used. I tried to use Compressor to shrink the virtual hard disk, but it said I couldn't because I had snapshots. I threw the snapshots into the trash before I realized I should use the snapshot configuration tool to delete them. When I then used the tool, it gave an "error code 22" message, but appeared to work, that is, there are no longer snapshots shown in the snapshot tool. However, I still can't run Compressor for the same reason: there are still snapshots of the hard disk. The only place I could find references to "snapshots" is inside of the Disk Descriptor.xml file inside the .hdd bundle. However, when I delete the <Snapshots> element, the guest OS no longer boots. How can I really get rid of the snapshots at this point and reclaim that huge amount of wasted disk space?
