I'm using Windows 10 in Parallels 12 under macOS 10.12, and I gather it's set up in coherence mode.

I had several shortcut icons on the Windows desktop for a few programs that did not display on my Mac desktop. However, today I installed several new programs under Windows, creating shortcuts on the Windows desktop, and I found that these display on the Mac desktop when I quit Windows and Parallels.

Is there a way to prevent these from appearing on the Mac desktop? Via a web search I came across a Parallels help page that suggested using option-left click on the icon on the Mac desktop to display a menu allowing the icon to be hidden, but this didn't work for me. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Arun, thanks for the reply. Actually as a quick workaround I just dragged the icons from the Windows desktop into its taskbar at the bottom of the screen, which caused the icons to disappear from the Mac desktop. If I run into the issue again, I'll return here and post the screenshots. Thanks again.

Just a follow-up, though: Are the Windows desktop icons supposed to appear on the Mac desktop as well? I do always see Mac desktop items on the Windows desktop. What is the expected normal behavior?

Hi @FrankO1 , if sharing is enabled both Windows and Mac desktop icons will be shared. If you want the Desktop sharing to be disabled, you can Try Configure > Options> Sharing> Shared profile > Configure > Un check Desktop and check if that works.

Thanks for the suggestion. I also found that if I drag an icon on the Mac desktop into the trash, it will be removed there but will still remain visible on the Windows desktop.
