I am running Gentoo and in need of mounting USB drives. I tried installing the tools, but I'm not sure whats wrong. I see /media/psf with my thumb drive folder but its empty, not mounted, and not visable by lsblk.

X-Windows is not installed and I would prefer to keep it that way.

Does anyone know if this works?

I don't think you would need the parallels tools to be able to mount USB drives. Parallels tools mainly give you faster integration with the host and a few gimmicks related to X, which you don't want to use.
