    I am trying to install a Parallels Desktop 12 from the 12.1.3 dmg onto a new Macbook pro running Sierra 10.12.3 . All goes well with dmg download but problems happen on the installation. I am asked for my Mac password then the it says the installation is complete. However the icon in the application folder is greyed out with a cross through it and does not do anything. I have repeated this 3 times in case the dmg was corrupt but the same occurs.
    thanks,
    Stuart

    Please, send us problem report. To do this you need to attach installation DMG and run the next command from the terminal:
    $ /Volumes/Parallels\ Desktop\ 12/Parallels\ Desktop.app/Contents/MacOS/prlsrvctl problem-report --send --stand-alone
    It will take some time the command to complete. And at the end problem report id will be printed - post it here.

    Can you explain what "attach installation DMG" means?

    You double-click on DMG-file and a new disk volume appears in your system. This is what "attach" is.

    Thanks. I suspect this problem is because of umask setting. Parallels Desktop installation heavily depends on its value. So if you have something like
    $ umask
    0077

    you may workaround the issue setting mask to standard value 0022:
    $ sudo launchctl config user umask 0022
    Password:
    Configuration applied. You mask reboot to for changes to take effect.
    $ sudo reboot

    - yes, you need to reboot to apply this setting. After that you should be able to install Parallels Desktop successfully. Then, if you want, you may restore umask setting to its original value.
