Hello, I just purchased a copy of Parallels for my new iMac core 2.

I bought the full OS Windows XP Home SP2 and it installs for a bit then I run into an error (I've tried reinstalling, knowledge base, just about everything I could think of) "Fatal Error: One of the components Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed

    The Device Is Not Ready"

"error: Installation field D:\I386\asms. Error Message: The device is not ready"

I'm tried custon, typical, express...and I tried the .iso....same thing every time.

    Hello!

Please check Parallels Desktop build number (under the "Parallels Desktop" - "About" menu). It should be either 3214 or 4560. Restart the MAC and create a new virtual machine. Please follow this steps: http://kb.parallels.com/entry/31/458/

    Best regards,
    John

    Hello!

Build 3188 is out of date. Please go to the "Help" menu and choose the "Check for updates" menu option and update Parallels,

    Best regards,
    John

    Hi,

I'm experiencing the exact same problem as Radiohead235 described aboved. I've tried installing different methods, took disk out cleaned it, uninstalled/reinstalled parallels desktop, everything suggested in this post and others. I upgraded to the lasted build (5160 released yesterday). I also tried creating a disk image but I get an error with that too ("unable to create "winxp.dmg" input/output error").

Any other ideas or suggestions. I've been trying to get this installed for the past 2 days since I received it in the mail. I'm growning a bit frustrated as I would like to transition my files and apps from my existing PC to the MAC.

Thanks in advance for your help,
    AJ

    Hi,

Yureeka! Finally after 2 days of trying to get Windows XP installed, I got it working. I basically had to use my Dell PC to burn a copy of the Windows install disk onto a new CD. I then put the CD I created in the Mac, created an image, and then ran parallels desktop. It worked!!!! Now I'm ready to be productive in this new environment. :)

    God bless,
    AJ
