Hi, today I was asked to update Parallels Desktop 12 which also required an update of Parallels Tools. I use several Windows 7 virtual machines. As far as I tried all show the same behavior: after startup and login Parallels Tools are installed and at about 40% the system crashes. I tried both ways that are described in two articles concerning that behaviour, none worked. Windows 7 can be run in save mode which shows that the recurring installation of the Parallels Tools is for sure the cause. I have tried that several times with always the same results. Can anybody advice what to do next???

I have the same problem. It crashes after updating 3%. the problem is that I cannot seem to get into control panel in order to remove Parallel Tools ... it just crashes. any other suggestions? I am a first time parallels user ... and just purchased/downladed windows 10 home, although the issue doesn't seem to be with Windows.

I check the log file: C:\Windows\Temp\parallels-setup.log, it says:
INSTALLMESSAGE_ERROR: Failed to install driver prl_time
    how can I fix this?

Updated Parallels today as I got a popup saying there was an update.... it crashed somewhat halfway and gave me a critical error message at that vm wasn't running or did not start. So I booted up again, windows says system has crashed, selected normal startup, it then did a check disc checkup and I saw messages concerning parallels tools files came up during the process as something was damaged with them... finished the process and booted windows up fine right after.

But like 1 min later, it crashes again... and will do so repeatedly for every next boot.

So thinking I could just get a backup from 1 hour ago from time machine of the image file it would be back and running ok. Same thing happened. So then I uninstalled parallels, downloaded the setup file, did a clean install. Got from time machine a backup further back (about 12 hours back)....

    NOW IT DOESN'T EVEN BOOT!

In MSDOS (initial black screen) says that it can not boot from drive or file is missing.

I am panicking right now. All my professional work is on this VM and the backup doesn't even work. Loosing a lot of money by the minute !!!

Just did a full backup restore to a backup that TM made 30min before the update occurred. Now it works like a charm. What a life saver.

Dear VictorP1, it's working on our side without having an issue. You may try to uninstall Parallels Desktop completely and then reinstall Parallels Desktop and Tools to check if the issue persists.
