    Hi,
I have a MacBook pro retina i7 processor. I am running Sierra and windows 10(latest update or it was a couple of days ago) trough parallels 12 (latest update).
Yesterday I got on the train, got my laptop out and there was a black screen on the mac saying restart your system. I did.
After the restart, I tried to turn on the virtual machine but it didn't load. Actually, it did load but the start menu wasn't working. I tried to open Microsoft office( I have it on the mac dock) and it did open, however the start menu still wasn't working. I restarted the virtual machine and the same problem occurred. I tried both in coherence mode and in window view, the same problem. At the moment the windows is staying on a black screen when in window view and nothing happens. When I try to shut it down it goes to sleep and doesn't shut down, even if I restart to entire computer.

    So far I have:
Restarted the NVRAM of the Mac.
Restarted the SMC of the mac as well.
I have tried to restart it a couple of times the problem keeps appearing.
A couple of days ago I installed AutoCAD 2017, previously I had 2015, but for couple fo days it was working excellent so I don't think that this is the problem. Other than that I haven't done anything else that I don't usually do.

Please help as I have work to do ( I am going to cry)!!!!!

Just want to add that after the black screen started appearing, I can't turn on any windows application. The virtual machine won't shut down it only goes to sleep when i try to shut it down even after I restart the computer. The only time it shut down was after I restarted the SMC.

    *Update*
I booted the mac in safe mode. No errors there. It said that parallels can't be started in safe mode. I restarted the computer then to normal mode and the problem was still there.
I read about hypervision. I unticked it and I got to this point(see attached screenshot).

    Last update!
After a very long time of loading, this happened. If you know how to solve this problem please help!
The start menu wasn't working for a while, but now it works. However, I am afraid to restart my virtual machine. I googled the error but nothing appears.
*The window is not full screen, but at the background I had some email open.*
    Best Regards,

I restarted the windows because I was unable to type in the control panel. It Microsoft word I was able to.
However now the winodws has been booting for almost 10 min and usually is booting for 10-15 sec. So I am back at square one

Having the same problem after upgrading to P12. I am upgrading two iMacs at the same time and one installation is causing a black screen. Screen Shot 2016-10-23 at 10.21.51 PM.png

Hey, I just tried this and everything is working again! Go to "Actions" in the menu bar (see pic) and select "Reset" Screen Shot 2016-10-23 at 10.29.23 PM.png

    Hi RoverT,
To fix it, do the following:
Connect this Virtual Machine HDD to another Windows VM that can boot ( Configure > Hardware > "+" (plus button) > Hard Disk and point to the effected VM hard disk).
Make sure that boot order is not changed.
Uncheck newly added Hard disk in "Boot order" list.
    1.Start Virtual Machine.
2.Go to Windows File Explorer (My Computer) and find newly added Hard disk.
3.Right-click on it > Properties > Tools > Check now...
4.Select two options and press start.
After completion, shutdown the Virtual Machine and start the original one.

    Well,
The way I solved it was by reinstalling parallels as well as windows, then all the apps. It took a while.
